Initial Ideas/Sketches
The book was project for one of my classes during last semester in third year. Many ideas came into play but all the ideas focus on the narrative aspect of contents of book. Materiality, playfulness and experimentation was the many ideas that I consider during the process work of the project. The Memphis group's work are well known for their furniture design. This way, the book focuses on the physical experience through their furniture. This enables the book to have many moving parts like folds with a simple user experience in mind. The process work contains a lot of tinkering with many aspects of the from the size to the page flow of the book. Many designs were considered and redesign during this process stage.
Final Design
The finished result of the book is triumph and beautiful result. I think the book successfully show the ideas that I have keep in mind through the process, especially the interactivity of the user experience of handling the book. The result of the book has sophisticated approach with the clean white dust cover to the playfulness of the patterns inside to give the book to give a full expression of what the group represent in the design world and that period of time of avant garde style. I think this book represent how books I think should look into art books to create another dimension to further understand the style to the artist's intent and ideas to the reader.
The Future of the Book
When we look at the future of books is not all about the ebooks but a more interactive that helps the readers understand the content. The concept for the book is the ideas for educational purpose for studying the group's style and ideas of how the Memphis group create solutions for design problems in new ways. I think this idea express the main objection of the whole project from physical aspect of the book and bringing it to the digital age. This approached for the book extends the use and improve the experience beyond what the book is capable of.
